William Moffitt III

Chairman of Microvisk, based in Chicago

Bill has over 30 years’ experience in the diagnostics and medical device industry having held senior executive positions in I-Stat and Baxter Healthcare. Amongst his current roles, he is the CEO of Nanosphere Inc, Chicago and Chairman of Glysure in the UK.


John Curtis

Director & CEO of Microvisk

John has worked with Microvisk from the start and has been critical to its ongoing success. John’s extensive knowledge and experience of the medical and diagnostic markets has enabled him to steer the company confidently through the recent economic uncertainties to develop the world’s first SmartStrip®. John has been involved in the design and development of diagnostic instruments and reagent test systems for infectious diseases, hormones, parasites, drugs and diabetes monitoring parameters since the mid-1980s. John’s dedication and enthusiasm is carried over into his personal interests as an avid SCUBA diver and underwater photographer.


Peter Whitehouse

Director, Company Secretary & CFO of Microvisk

Peter joined Microvisk in February 2011 as Chief Financial Officer. Peter has significant experience in life science, technology and manufacturing businesses (established and start-up); in senior/board positions; establishing and restructuring finance operations; and managing companies with significant development activities and acquisitions and divestments. He gained his M.Eng in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College in 1987 and in ACA while training with Ernst & Young (owner managed/small business department) in 1990. Peter also holds qualifications in marketing (Diploma - CIM), treasury (ACT - Association of Corporate Treasurers) and company direction (Diploma).


Fred Hallsworth

Vice Chairman & Director of Microvisk

Fred is the Senior Partner of the Hallsworth Partnership and is an expert in assisting companies with their fund raising and helping them along their corporate pathway. He has held a number of corporate senior financial positions and has specialised in the Technology and Life science sectors for the last 20 years.

Matthew is a director of Oxford Technology Management with a specific interest in investments in the Life Science sector.

John was a development chemist before turning his interest to business investment and he is now an early-stage investment executive with Finance Wales.

Richard Hughes

Richard has been working in the coagulation business on and off for 15 years; from sales roles with Helena Biosciences, Sigma Diagnostics and Trinity Biotech to product management roles with British Biocell and Alere. Until recently, Richard was the International Product Manager for the Alere INRatio® point-of-care coagulation products. Richard looks after our sales, distribution and marketing outside of the Americas.

Bert Valada

Bert brings to Microvisk over 25 years of success-driven experience in leading commercial diagnostic organisations in the United States, Canada and South America.  Since 2009, Bert has supported Microvisk in product, business and market development in the United States, and Microvisk now has secure footing in the medical distribution, patient self-testing and acute care sales channels.  Bert has held leadership positions in Abbott Diagnostics, Behring Diagnostics and several start-up diagnostic and hospital information management companies.


US Marketing Manager

Dana Connors

Dana joined Microvisk in February 2011, bringing with him several years’ experience of market development in the IVD industry.  Since joining the company, he has prepared upscale market research for the design and development of the CoagMax® and CoagLite® instruments.  He also coordinates trade show participation, and business and market development in the western hemisphere.  Dana is a Fulbright Fellow, holds a MSc from the University of Amsterdam and speaks six languages

Emma Keefe

Having graduated from Aston University with a BSc in French & European Studies, Emma started at Morgan Stanley Quilter and worked her way up the Investment Management ladder passing several Securities Institute examinations along the way. Emma is now Office & Accounts Manager at Microvisk and also provides day-to-day support to the CEO at this exciting time for the Company. Emma lives in North Wales with Patrick and their three children.

Alexander Thomson

Alex has been involved with Quality Assurance for over 20 years.  Within Microvisk, he has the responsibility of implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System in compliance to both ISO 9001 and 13485 (medical device standards). Alex is fire warden and is responsible for Health and Safety in the work place.

Jim ​Thurlow

Jim joined Microvisk in April 2012 having spent the previous 20 years in the IVD industry in a variety of Technical, Quality, R&D and operational leadership and senior management roles at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and previously Diagnostics Products Corporation (DPC).  During his early career, Jim was responsible for leading efforts to establish the necessary systems to support the manufacture of DPC’s IMMULITE® reagent manufacture activities in the UK, with specific responsibility for technology transfer of product out of R&D, through scale up and into routine Manufacturing.  More recently, Jim played a key role in the transfer of manufacture of 50+ IVD products from US manufacture to the UK, ensuring compliance to the appropriate standards and regulations.  Jim lives in North Wales with his wife and two daughters and enjoys the excellent lifestyle that goes with living in this beautifully scenic part of the world.


 

Operations Manager

Malcolm Smith

Malcolm has spent the past 30 years of his career within operations management at Director, Head of Department and Senior Management levels mostly for Denso Manufacturing, a first-tier multinational Japanese automotive blue chip supplier. Malcolm has considerable in-depth experience of ‘lean manufacturing’, and continuous improvement philosophies and techniques.  Malcolm also has experience within injection moulding, high volume electronics, presswork and assembly fields.  Previous roles in other global companies have included the management of multi-functional teams in manufacturing, engineering, maintenance and logistics.


Instrumentation Manager

Mike Burgess

Mike joined Microvisk in April 2008. He is responsible for the instrumentation and hardware development of the clinical products. Previously, Mike was Automation Manager on the UK Biobank Project, designing and implementing a high throughput automated laboratory and storage facility for processing biological samples. He has also run a development team for Tepnel Life Sciences, developing instrumentation and chemistry kits with a wide range of biological applications. Mike graduated with an honours degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Hull in 1996 and attained a Masters in Instrumentation from UMIST in 2003.


Director of Sensor Development

Dr Vladislav Djakov

Vladislav is the co-founder of Microvisk Ltd and the inventor of Microvisk MEMS-based Technology. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Vladislav came to UK in 1995 to pursue an MSc in Artificial Intelligence followed by a PhD in Micro-Robotics. With over 14 years of extensive ‘hands-on’ expertise on a number of micro-fabrication techniques, as well as microelectronics interfacing and data acquisition, Vladislav was responsible for a portfolio of International and National Projects on Micro and Nanotechnology at the Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory with focus on Micro System Technology in Bio-Medical Field, Medical Diagnostics, Security and Space Science, since October 2000. In November 2007, Vladislav joined Microvisk team as the Sensor Development Director and Technology Consultant. He is also responsible for the company’s IP portfolio and the principal author of its three international patent families.
